SOLID AS A ROCK

And for love’s sake, each mistake, ah, you forgave
And soon both of us learned to trust
Not run away, it was no time to play
We build it up and build it up and build it up

And now it’s solid
Solid as a rock
That’s what this love is
That’s what we’ve got, oh, mmm…

Solid (Oh)
Solid as a rock
And nothing’s changed it (Ooh)
The thrill is still hot, hot, hot, hot, hot, hot, hot, hot

Oh…oh…oh…ah…

You didn’t turn away
When the sky went gray
Somehow we managed
We had to stick together (Ooh…ooh…ooh…ooh…)

You didn’t bat an eye
When I made you cry
We knew down the line
We would make it better (Ooh…ooh…ooh…ooh…)

And for love’s sake, each mistake, ah, you forgave
And soon both of us learned to trust
Not run away, it was no time to play
We build it up and build it up and build it up

Now it’s solid
Solid as a rock [Ooh]
That’s what this love is (Oh…oh…)
That’s what we’ve got [Oh…oh…] (Yes, it is)

Solid
Solid as a rock
And nothing’s changed it [Oh…]
The thrill is still hot, hot, hot, hot, hot, hot, hot, hot

Oh…oh…oh…ah…

Gone with the wind
Another friend
Got in between
Tried to separate us (Ooh…ooh…ooh…ooh…)

Oh, knock-knock on wood
You understood
Love was so new
We did what we had to (Ooh…ooh…ooh…ooh…)

And with that feeling we were willing to take a chance
So against all odds, we made a start
We got serious (Ooh), this wouldn’t turn to dust
We build it up and build it up and build it up

And now it’s solid (Ooh)
Solid as a rock
That’s what this love is (Oh)
That’s what we’ve got, oh (Oh, oh)

Solid (Yes, it is)
Solid as a rock (Ah…)
And nothing’s changed it (Ooh)
The thrill is still hot, hot, hot, hot, hot, hot , hot , hot

Solid (Oh)
Solid as a rock (You know it) [Well] (You know it, baby)
Solid
Solid as a rock (Lovin’ me, lovin’ me, oh)

Solid (Don’t leave me, baby)
Solid as a rock [Well, well, why, why] (Oh…)
Solid
Solid as a rock (Every day it gets sweeter, now) [Ooh]

Solid [You know I like it]
Solid as a rock (Good, good, well, it’s good, good, good)
Solid (Solid, solid, solid, solid, solid)
As a rock

Sexual Assault, Black Scientists and Junk Tuna

I liked the format of the last post, it was different from what is normally posted here. Feel free to let me know if it wasn’t a brilliant idea, but until I hear otherwise, I just might continue the multi-news format for The Wrighter. I’m open to suggestions. Today’s post is a little heavier than the last one, but I believe it’s digestible information that is useful. Have an awesome and productive weekend.

STUDY: 1 IN 5 WOMEN IN AIR FORCE SEXUALLY ASSULTED – GOES UNREPORTED

Mediafreedominternational.org reported that a study acquired by The Christian Monitor, found that one in every five women in the US Air Force is sexually assaulted by male airmen. The study was conducted to assess the violence that took place within the military so that “prevention programs” could be created. The study also found that the reason most given by the assaulted women for not reporting the rape was that they feared causing “trouble in their unit.”

BLACK SCIENTISTS IN THE US ARE LESS LIKELY TO GET FUNDING

In a report published Thursday, The National Institutes of Health (NIH), the largest source of funding for medical research in the world, examined submissions for their grant applications by over 40,000 researchers from 2000-2006. They found that Black scientists in the US are less likely to be awarded funding than White scientists regardless of education or experience. According to BBC News, Francis Collins, the NIH director, said they would look at reviewing grants on the basis of scientific merits alone without the additional required information about the applicant’s qualifications or background.

Mind, Body, Spirit

Because there is SO much going on in the world, I've become slightly paralyzed with information overload. With so much bad news about the financial markets, I didn't want to further exacerbate the volitle market with too much negative media coverage. The alternative was to give you a little of everything. I took a holistic approach to this post this time. I hope you can get something from it...

Hong Kong share trading hit by hackers

According to BBC World News, shares in HSBC, Cathay Pacific, China Power International and the Hong Kong exchange itself were among the seven companies whose trading was suspended on Wednesday for half the day, due to a hacking attack. The attack, according to BBC, was aimed at a website run by the exchange used to tell traders about company announcements.

"Our current assessment (is) that this is a result of a malicious attack by outside hacking," said Charles Li, head of Hong Kong Exchanges & Clearing (HKEC), in a statement. HKEC runs the Hang Seng exchange.

The attack on the site made it temporarily unavailable. It is unknown as to whether the attack flooded the site with information, making it unavailable, or if hackers gained unauthorized access to information. The incident has been referred to the police as well as the Securities and Futures Commission.

The Hong Kong exchange is one of many stock markets that have been hit by hackers. BBC reported that the Zimbabwe stock exchange was attacked in early August and in February. The US Nasdaq revealed that cyber criminals had planted malicious code on its "Directors Desk" web application.

Stay-Well Strategy #1: Socks on!

“When feet get chilly, it actually tightens up the blood vessels in the sinuses,” says Ron Eccles, Ph.D., director of the Common Cold Centre at Britain’s Cardiff University. According to iVillage, here's how: chilly feet send a message to your brain to take action to conserve your body's heat, and it in turn, responds by firing out messages that reduce blood flow to areas where heat is lost quickly. This includes the mucus membranes of the sinuses. When blood flow is reduced to the sinuses, so is the flow of infection-fighting white blood cells, leaving your body more vulnerable when viruses invade. Recent studies show, according to iVillage, that keeping your feet warm, with a pair of warm socks cuts risk of colds by as much as 67 percent.

Music out of Asia…

In late September Afropop will be premiering our next Hip Deep show Africa in East Asia: Shanghai Jazz to Tokyo Rastafari. The show, as the title explains, will delve into the mostly unknown world of Japanese Rastafarian Dancehall, pre-Mao jazz in Shanghai and other informative, mind-blowing aspects of how African styles have penetrated subcultures across East Asia.

Thanks to Tropical Bass, Afropop recently caught word of Malaysian singer/MC Arabyrd who just dropped a 3-track EP with slabs of dancehall bass with an M.I.A. delivery called Disco Nected.
